Great news! “Ask Uncle Neil: why is my hair curly?” was featured in the latest Diversity in Action magazine. It’s on page 59. It was part of a bigger piece on natural hair being portrayed in the media. I was glad to offer my thoughts on the book and on kids getting into STEM. Check out the piece HERE.
Summer is here. I remember when I was a kid. Summers could be boring at times. Reruns on TV didn’t help matters! How can you keep kids busy? Here are a couple of suggestions:
Many public libraries offer summer time reading programs for kids. Below is an example of what’s going on at the San Diego Public Library. You can even develop your own summer reading program. For example, read a book a week to get a prize, with the prize increasing in value with the number of books read in a week (perhaps my book could make the list).
Another idea. Science is all around us. Go for nature walks and take pictures of what you see. Then go to Google, click on “Search by Image” (right beside the search bar) and upload the images. Google will provide visual matches to your images. Do research on the visual matches, either using Google or regenerative AI like ChatGPT. Learn something new!
Try this out and let me know how it goes!
