I told an acquaintance that I wrote a children’s book.
She responded, “Congratulations. That’s quite an accomplishment.”
I remember thinking, “Really?”
Completing an Ironman is an accomplishment. Writing a children’s book? Not a chance.
I just don’t think that doing things that are within my control is a great accomplishment.
I wrote the words for the book.
I hired someone to edit my words.
I hired someone to provide the illustrations.
What’s so accomplished about that?
I controlled the process.
There was no reason for me not to complete the book. I self-published the book, too, so I didn’t have any barriers there, either. If I was relying on a publisher to publish my book, then perhaps I could see publishing the book as an accomplishment. In that scenario, I don’t have full control. I’m depending on a publisher to deem my book compelling enough to publish.
If you have full control of a goal, make it happen. Don’t make excuses.
I decided to write a children’s book.
I wrote a children’s book.
I published it.
Simple as that.
